Short Film Analysis

The Elevator by Greg Gillena

The film follows a linear narrative structure and is in full chronological order. The audience also sees a plot twist at the end of the short film. The sound is critical in the film although there is not much dialogue; the diegetic score of elevator brings a sense of realism to the film. The only dialogue the audience hears is from the man as he pleads with the other people in the lift to let him out as he thought he was in danger.

Soft high key lighting is used in the film to create more realism in the film and it is used throughout. Most of the film is shot in medium close up which is zoomed out to show most of the people in the lift.

At the start of the film the film creator is shown in a black background, as the movie begins the title of the film is shown whilst the film starts at bottom of the screen. This is done to save interruption in the film and it instantly engages the audience into the film.

The theme of the film is evidently comedy. The man thought he was clever getting off a lift which he thought he would be in danger in, however, he was to be mistaken as when he gets off one lift he gets into a stereotypically lighter weighted lift, however, he was to be left mistaken as really the people in the lift are swine flu victims. The purpose of this film is to entertain its audience. Its light-hearted humour is taken in good terms and it also brings a smile to the audiences face.
